Obediah's Okefenok

Obediah’s Okefenok began in 1989 after the restoration of the 127 year old cabin built by swamp legend, Henry Obediah Barber. The log home is the oldest swamp settler’s home to remain in and around the swamp, constructed by the hands of a renowned farmer, hunter, and explorer.

Obediah was larger-than-life character who stood at 6.5 feet and was known as the “Southeast Paul Bunyan”. He was a guide for surveying parties that explored and mapped the swamp in 1857, 1875, and 1890.

Visitors can take the elevated boardwalk and trails past the cabins and wildlife. Meet an alligator, python, black bear, cougar, and more. Dioramas of action scenes from the swamp are also available.
