Each year, millions of people travel during the holidays. Whether it’s to another state, country, or even down the street, finding a way to reconnect with loved ones and nostalgia for the past has remained at the forefront of travel plans. Come join our family and experience the holiday season Atlanta History Center style. Learn about cultural customs, traditions, iconic images, and the origins of holiday pastimes as you travel around the world at our Home for the Holidays Homeschool Day.

The Atlanta History Center offers special programs for homeschool students and their families. During these day-long programs, explore a different subject through engaging hands-on experiences, performances, historic simulations, and a variety of activities designed for kids from toddler to teen.

General admission to Homeschool Days is $8.50 each for children and adults. Admission for members is $6.50 for children and free for adults. Discounted rates are available for groups with 10 or more children.

Here are the details for each date:

Friday, September 7, 2018 – Critter Comics

Brainstorm and create original comics starring animals inspired by comic artist and illustrator Liz Climo.

Friday, October 5, 2018 – Weaving Monsters

Create soft and not-so-scary monsters by using a circle weaving technique.

Friday, November 2, 2018 – Printmaking and Geometric Radial Symmetry

Learn about radial symmetry and balance by creating scratch foam prints inspired by geometric patterns, shapes, and design

Friday, December 7, 2018 – Creating Skies in the Watercolor Lab

Experiment in the art testing studio with different watercolor techniques that involve unique materials and a little bit of science! In the end, we will pick our favorite techniques to create beautify sky paintings.

President’s Day: Booth Western Art Museum @ The Booth Art Academy
Feb 18 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

It’s a special day for Home School students in grades 2-12. Celebrate Presidents’ Day at Booth Western Art Museum and Bartow History Museum! Explore historic examples of the roles of the President through a special exhibition and video presentation. Visit the Presidential Gallery, participate in art activities, and make discoveries about the Presidents at both museums.

Cost: $5.00 for students, $3.00 plus tax for adults. Call 770-387-3849 to register. Booth Museum will be open to the general public.
