Delve into the world of the Atlanta History Center at our August Homeschool Day. Explore the Historic Houses and participate in interactive exhibits and presentations…all while making your own “history”. Come experience a taste of what the Atlanta History Center has to offer.

The Atlanta History Center offers special programs for homeschool students and their families. During these day-long programs, explore a different subject through engaging hands-on experiences, performances, historic simulations, and a variety of activities designed for kids from toddler to teen.

General admission to Homeschool Days is $8.50 each for children and adults. Admission for members is $6.50 for children and free for adults. Discounted rates are available for groups with 10 or more children.

Investigate soil and live earthworms in an indoor and outdoor lab. . Meet at the enclosed Group Shelter below the dam within the campground. Dress for the out of doors. Parents and under age 4 Free. Pre-registration and pre-payment is highly suggested because program could fill and walk-ins would be turned away.

Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the park on your own afterwards.

September’s homeschool lesson will focus on stream ecology. We will discuss the various benthic macro invertebrates found in Smith Creek and what makes a healthy/unhealthy stream. We will use nets and buckets to catch and then observe these amazing creatures.

Wear water shoes and clothes you can get wet!

Cost is $5 per student.

This lesson will take place in the delayed harvest section of Smith Creek- we will meet at the Bottoms fishing area access parking lot and walk to the stream.

These are only a few of the questions that inspired our Strange History Homeschool Day. Join us as we use storytelling, interactive stations, and creativity to explore the origins of weird holidays, inventions that almost didn’t make it, and the strange but true history that has permeated our lives.

Octobers’s lesson will focus on the hibernation and migration habits of animals native to North Georgia. There will be a short presentation and an activity relating to the lesson.

After the lesson, a short, optional hike is always available.

Cost is $5 per student.

Activities will take place at the Campground Visitor Center. Please arrive at the Visitor Center by 10am.
